Abbey Hartman top Raider girls runner of the 90s!

Girls cross country was a big success at Ocean City High School in the
1990s with 10 straight winning seasons, five Cape-Atlantic League
championships, 10 straight Cape May County titles plus a South Jersey
championship and five second place finishes.
Mike Naples, who retired after the 1999 season, coached the team
throughout the decade, which started with an undefeated team, the
fourth in school history.
The Raiders, led by Megan Hartman, won the South Jersey Group 3 title
in 1993, losing only a non-league meet with Shawnee, and finished
second in the state. Ocean City finished second in South Jersey in
1990-92-94-95-97.
Abbey Hartman, a state champion in both 1995 and 1996, was the most
successful OCHS runner of the decade. In 1996, she became the only
Ocean City athlete in any sport to win a state Group 4 championship.
Hartman also finished second and third in her two Meet of Champions
appearances.
Megan Hartman, Abbey's older sister, also won a state title and Mirjam
Pietersma, an Exchange student from Holland, finished third in the
state in 1990 and then finished second in the Meet of Champions to earn
a spot on the all-state team.
That trio led the All-1990s Raider team, which also includes Kate Bell,
a two-time all-conference selection, along with all-conference picks
Danielle Salvia, Shelly Solheim and Melissa Cardwell.
"We were blessed with a number of other runners who were strong
contributors to our success in the 90s," said Naples, "including Colsey
Moreland, who should be the first great runner of the next decade. But
these were the seven best of the 90s."
