OCHS Teams of the Century
Abbey Woolley Raider Field Hockey Player of the Century!

Despite the fact that the Ocean City High School field hockey program was around for only 19 seasons in
the 20th Century, there was a tremendous amount of talent on Raider teams.
For example, nine players have been named to the all-state team and another handful to the All-South
Jersey team. And two OC players combined to win three South Jersey scoring titles.
But the edge, as OCHS Player of the Century, goes to Abbey Woolley.
Woolley had a record-setting season as a scorer (41 goals) her senior year and led the Raiders to a state
championship. She was all-conference three times, All-South Jersey and all-state once. Since graduating,
she has represented the USA in a number of international competitions while continuing her successful
career at the University of North Carolina.
Joining Woolley as forwards on the All-Century Team are Kristie Miller, second team all-state and the
school’s first great scorer; Jen Blizzard, an all state selection and another player who went on to success
at UNC, who is now the head coach at Ball State; Sue Bloomstead, a great goal-scorer in the late 1980s;
and Jenee Doto, now at Ohio State, who was an all-state selection twice and scored more goals in her
career than any player in school history.
At midfield are Michelle Busby, an All-South Jersey player from the mid-90s; Cory Picketts, now at
Princeton, an all-state choice and South Jersey scoring champ in both her junior and senior years; and
Meredith Long, all-state last year and now headed to Boston University.
The trio on defense includes Kathy McNulty, an All-South Jersey pick in the early 90s; Patty Foster, an
all-state choice in 1993; and Tracy LeFever, an all-state pick in 1994 and recently named the head coach
at Hammonton High School. The goalkeeper is Jen Cushinotto, an all-state selection in 1998 and the
goalie for two state champions.
The only coach this sport has had at OCHS is Trish LeFever and she has compiled great numbers. She is
the only Raider coach to win three state titles in one sport (Mike Naples won a total of three in two sports)
and her winning percentage of .838 is second only to Naples. Next month, she will join Phil Birnbaum as
the only coaches to total 300 victories in one sport.
Selecting the top team when three won state championships is very difficult but the nod goes to the 1997
team. That group was 24-1, losing only to perennial powerhouse Shawnee, led by the unpredictable Kelly
Beine. Woolley was all-state and the South Jersey scoring champion with a school record 41 goals. There
were three other members of the all-century team on that club – junior Cushinotto and sophomores Doto
and Picketts.
