The First Decade of the 21st Century had its share of outstanding athletes in girls track. But the best of the best was Renee Tomlin, who won four individual state championships in a three-year period.

Tomlin was the best of the decade in the 400 meters, 800 meters and 1600 meters. She won the state title as a sophomore in the 800, won both the 800 and 1600 as a junior and the 1600 as a senior. Tomlin holds the school record in the 800 and 1600. She is the OCHS Girls Track Athlete of the First Decade.

Among those who join Tomlin on this all star team are Brittany Sedberry and Kayla Ghanavatti.

Sedberry was the best in the 3200 meters, in which she holds the school record. She won the state title in both the 3200 and 1600 as a junior and won the NJSIAA Meet of Champions as a junior. Injuries and illness made it impossible for Sedberry to compete during her senior year.

Ghanavatti set school records in three events - the 100 and 200 meters and the triple jump.

The hurdlers on the all-decade team were Rachel Hunter in the 100 hurdles and Molly Minehan in the 400 meters. Minehan also joined Tomlin, Erin Walsh and Allie Moreland on the best 4x400 meter relay team of the decade.

Ali Decredico was a South Jersey champion and school record holder in the pole vault. The other jumpers were Sarah Hindelang in the high jump and Melissa Hunter, Rachel's twin sister, in the long jump.

In the throwing events, the best of the decade were Jacquie Amonette in the discus, Kathy McAlarnen in the javelin and Leslie Robinson in the shot put.

The Raiders kept their ubeaten streak alive in the Cape May County meet during the First Decade, winning the title all 10 seasons. And the 2004 team finished second in South Jersey and third in the state meet.

But the First Decade was highlighted by the outstanding performances of Renee Tomlin. She joins Kellie Adams (90s) and Melody Sye (80s) as Ocean City High School Girls Track Athletes of the Decade.
