Ex-Raider flourishing in college

Ocean City has had great sports teams in the fall for quite a while now. As you can see elsewhere in this
week’s Gazette, 2003 is no exception.
But, what happens to the athletes who help create that success? Here are some updates.
RYAN CARR has a 4-3-1 record in goal for Hartford men’s soccer with a 1.30 goals-against average and
shutouts over UMass and the U.S. Naval Academy.
MATT CHILA has caught 10 passes for 61 yards and a touchdown for Villanova’s undefeated football team
in three games. Chila is considered one of the best tight ends in the country.
STEVE COOK has carried the ball 39 times for 149 yards and one touchdown in Delaware Valley’s first
two games. He has also caught four passes for 39 yards. The Aggies are 2-0 and play Susquehanna at
home on Saturday afternoon.
JEN CRUZ has played in all six of Columbia’s field hockey games, starting four. The Lions are 0-6.
JENEE DOTO has a team-leading six assists for the Ohio State field hockey team in eight games. The
Buckeyes are 5-3 and lost to Stanford, 3-2, earlier this season. The Cardinal tied the score on an
unassisted goal by MISSY HALLIDAY, a fellow OCHS graduate. Halliday has scored twice this year for
Stanford, which is 2-6.
RICK HENSHAW has completed 24 passes in three games for Shippensburg for 269 yards and four TDs.
Those Raiders are 3-0.
CHRISTINE MAYNE has four goals and a team-leading two assists for McDaniel College women’s soccer
in seven games. Mayne is one of the team’s co-captains. The Green Terror are 6-1. Teammate KRISTEN
GOODREAU, also a former Raider, has played in six games but hasn’t scored.
ERIN McNULTY has started all five games on defense for the LaSalle women’s soccer team. She also
started 17 of last year’s 18 games. The Explorers are 0-5-1.
CORY PICKETTS has two goals and an assist for Princeton field hockey in five games, including one goal
against No. 4 ranked Penn State. The Tigers are 4-1 and play at home for the next three weeks.
JOHN RICHARDSON finished ninth overall and second among University of Kentucky runners in a cross
country meet at Bowling Green.
CHAD SEVERS scored three goals in two Penn State wins and was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com’s
NCAA Team of the Week. Severs has four goals and two assists for the Nittany Lions (4-2) in six games.
He didn’t play a fall sport in high school but JEFF MICHNER shot a 158 over 36 holes to help Drexel finish
ninth in a fall golf tournament at St. Bonaventure University.
As you can see, these athletes who helped Ocean City High School achieve success in fall sports are still
succeeding.
