Girls Basketball Shootout at EHT
was another success!


There were 16 games over four days with three different players scoring their 1,000th career points. And the showdown between Eastern powers - No. 6 Cardinal O'Hara and No. 8 St. John Vianney - went into overtime. The Shootout was played at Egg Harbor Township High School. Read on for game summaries.

All teams listed are from New Jersey except where indicated.


Friday, February 12, 1999
4:15 Gloucester 59, Ocean City 48
Allison Cooney had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Lions (16-3). Jessica Brookes led the Raiders (8-10) with 11 points and three blocks.
6:00 Mainland 47, Bishop Eustace Prep 44
Lindsay Bard had 16 points and Kerrie Delaney 14 for the Mustangs (16-3). Jill Norton led the Crusaders (15-2) with 17 points and nine boards.
7:45 Shawnee 75, Egg Harbor Township 28
Lynlee Phillips had 21 points for Shawnee (18-1). April Pashley led EHT (8-11) with eight points.


Saturday, February 13, 1999
12:30 Holy Spirit 59, Wildwood Catholic 56
Angie Pezzetta paced the Spartans with 19 points, including her 1,000th career point with five seconds left. Aimee Pearson had 19 points for the Crusaders.
2:15 Paramus Catholic 72, Absegami 57
Katie Corey scored 30 points on 14-for-20 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds for Paramus Catholic (13-7) with Kate Drumgoole adding 10 assists. Kristen Morrison had 21 points and eight boards for Absegami (18-3).
4:00 Archbishop Carroll PA 66, Sterling 58
Cherrise Graham scored 26 points on 11-for-14 shooting and MaryBeth Culbertson added 21 for O'Hara (16-6). Kim Moro had 27 points and 13 rebounds with Jessica Copskey adding 25 points for Sterling (17-2).
5:45 St. Mary's MD 60, Gloucester Catholic 51
Maria Smear had 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners from Annapolis (21-5). Kris Quinn had 15 points and four assists for Gloucester Catholic (18-3).
7:30 St. John Vianney 85, Cardinal O'Hara PA 76 OT
Regan Apo totaled 28 points, five steals and three assists as Vianney (18-1) won this match between two of the top teams in the East. Sandi Haefner added 21 points and 13 boards. Amy Dessart Mager had 25 points and 16 rebounds with Trish Juhline getting 24 points and 11 boards for O'Hara (18-4). Juhline hit a three-pointer with five seconds left to send the game into overtime. Vianney was 13 for 14 from the foul line in overtime.


Sunday, February 14, 1999
1:00 Mainland 50, Bridgeton 29
Lauren Harrison had 16 points for the Mustangs (17-3). Shana Sheppard had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
3:00 Cardinal O'Hara PA 64, St. Mary's MD 59
O'Hara bounced back to win behind 29 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists by Trish Juhline, who also scored her 1,000th career point. Emily Lipton had 21 for St. Mary's.
5:00 Notre Dame 49, Egg Harbor Township 29
Michelle Campbell scored 12 points for Notre Dame (12-6). Marita Rydell had 10 points for the Eagles (8-12).
7:00 St. John Vianney 67, East Brunswick 58
Vianney won again, with Regan Apo getting 28 points, nine boards and five assists. Sandi Haefner had 12 points and 10 rebounds. East Brunswick (17-3) was paced by Jess Olszewski with 16 points and eight rebounds.


Monday, February 15, 1999
2:00 Camden Catholic 55, Sacred Heart 47
Theresa DiMedio paced four in double figures for the Irish (9-11) with 16 points. She also added 10 rebounds. Trish Birmingham had 17 points for Sacred Heart (13-6).
3:45 Haddonfield 67, Toms River North 32
Alexis George had 19 points and six assists with Erin Donohue getting 16 points and six assists for Haddonfield (14-5). Lauren Anderson scored 11 for North (16-4), which made only 19 percent of its shots and turned the ball over 33 times.
5:30 Peddie School 67, Ocean City 40
Lauren Kokotajlo had 16 points and Jenna Graber 15 for Peddie. Jessica Brookes paced Ocean City with 17 points.
7:15 Gloucester Catholic 40, Bishop Eustace Prep 36
Kris Quinn hit a three-pointer down the stretch that gave Gloucester Catholic the lead for good, gave her a game-high 18 and pushed her past the 1,000-point mark for her career. Lindsey McNamara had 12 points and 11 boards for Eustace with Erica Maurer getting 11 points and 11 rebounds.
