2000 Tipoff Weekend at EHT
The Cape-Atlantic League against the rest of New
Jersey
The third annual Tipoff Weekend was held at Egg Harbor Township High
School, where it has been held the last two years. This was the first time the event was
held over two days, instead of three. Here are the results:
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16
Washington Township girls 73, St. Joseph 52
Senior Jen Scaffidi had 27 points, 10 rebounds and a
Tipoff Weekend record eight steals to pace the Minutemaids. Junior Beth
Castone had 17 points and five assists for St. Joe.
Atlantic City boys 88, Bishop Eustace Prep 55
Senior Ron Reed, a transfer from St. Augustine, had 23
points and four assists for the Vikings. Junior Kenell Sanchez had 26
points for the Crusaders. This game was later forfeited to Eustace when
it was determined that Reed was not yet eligible to play for Atlantic
City.
Holy Spirit girls 55, Bishop Eustace Prep 35
Junior Jen Daniels had 18 points and six rebounds for
the Spartans with junior Kim Ordille getting 11 points and five assists.
Jill Norton, Eustace's 6-2 junior center, had 13 points and nine
rebounds.
Gloucester Catholic girls 62, Egg Harbor Township 44
Junior Kelly Quinn had 15 points and freshman Lauren
Kendra added six assists for the Rams. Senior Marita Rydell had 16
points and seven boards for the Eagles.
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17
Sterling boys 72, Ocean City 57
Senior guard Ernest Turner, who is committed to UNLV,
scored a Tipoff Record 38 points - hitting 12 of 24 shots and 13 of 14
free throws. He also had four assists. Junior Steve West had 28 points
and 11 rebounds for the Raiders.
Pleasantville boys 78, Woodrow Wilson 70
Senior Antwan Dozier had 24 points, eight rebounds and a
Tipoff Weekend record eight steals for the Greyhounds. Senior Reggie
Kelly added 20 points, nine rebounds and six steals as Pleasantville
forced 37 Wilson turnovers. Senior Melvin Garrett had 30 points, on
14-for-18 shooting, and a record-tying 16 rebounds for the Tigers.
Holy Spirit boys 55, Highland 47
Senior Nick Mimmo had 19 points and junior Marc
Milbourne added 13 points and 11 boards as the Spartans rallied with a
24-13 advantage in the fourth quarter to defeat the defending South
Jersey Group 4 champions. Senior Eric Tickles had 13 for Highland with
6-7 senior Chris Brattelli grabbing 15 rebounds.
St. Augustine Prep boys 81, Paterson Catholic 61
Senior Jose Gonzalez had 28 points and 12 rebounds with
Clemson recruit Olu Babalola getting 22 points and 11 boards as the
three-time defending South Jersey Parochial B champions won
comfortably. Sophomores Sydir Mitchell and Marquis Webb had 19 and 17,
respectively, for the Cougars.
Egg Harbor Township boys 65, Pemberton 61
Senior center Jeff Saitz paced four double-figure
scorers for EHT with 17 points. Senior Adam Swift added six assists.
Paul Harper, Pemberton's 6-5 senior center, scored 19 points and had
eight rebounds before going down with an akle injury late in third
quarter.
